Harbouring Histories - Quayside memories

Quay Arts Centre Building, Sea Street, Newport, Isle of Wight, PO30 5BD

  • 13 Sep 2025
  • In person
  • Pre-booking not required

Informal drop-in information and fact finding day exploring the history (living memory and beyond) of Newport Harbour and the Quay Arts building from it's inception in 1870 to present day, led by Quay Arts and Deadman.

Quay Arts, in partnership with Deadman, are seeking memories of Newport Quayside, with a focus on the period from 1870 to present day, to support the development of a brand new site specific theatre piece to premier at Quay Arts, Sep 2026.

We invite the public to learn about the Quay Arts Centre building and surrounds, then and now, and to share and collate their memories and knowledge which will inform a new free-to-view theatre piece, exploring those who worked the Quayside and area known locally as the 'Woas'.

Light refreshments and a friendly ear provided, along with opportunity to explore architects plans and local historical maps and ephemera linked to the Arts Centre.
