Heritage Open Days Festival on the Marketplace
Thetford Town Council, Guildhall, Cage Lane, Thetford, Norfolk, IP24 2DS
The event brings together a fantastic mix of local organizations, community groups, and museums, all joining forces to share the unique heritage, achievements, and history of our town.
You can catch the Brecks Fen Edge and Rivers Landscape Partnership to find out about the geology and conservation shaping our waterways. The RAF Heritage Centre Honington will share the history of ground combat protection keeping air operations safe, while the Norfolk Fire Museum is bringing vintage firefighting equipment to show off regional emergency services history.
Alongside marketplace stalls, three of our best local museums are opening specially on a Sunday. Step into the world of Walmington-on-Sea at the Dads Army Museum, or head to the Charles Burrell Museum to see the impressive steam engines built in the historic St Nicholas Works. The Ancient House Museum will also open its doors, letting you explore local life inside an incredible Tudor building.
Next door in the Guildhall Large Courtroom, we’ll have a series of short talks and lectures running throughout the day. Experts from the attending groups will deliver these quick presentations, giving a deeper look into the history and innovations featured on the square. The whole event is completely free and great for all ages.
