Hertford Town Council will host its annual Heritage Day at Hertford Castle. The event fosters the spirit of Hertford by celebrating its rich historical and cultural heritage with a day of activities and entertainment, including Castle Open Day.

Visitors are invited to step back in time and experience the beautiful Hertford Castle lawn transformed to include a small settlement of interactive medieval encampments. Visitors will also be able to enjoy a full programme of entertainment including archery, fire breathing, storytelling and Viking battle re-enactments.

Hertford Castle is a magnificent Grade I listed building, which dates from the mid-15th century. It is situated in beautiful grounds, nestled at the heart of Hertford, and was a Royal Palace for over 300 years where Queen Elizabeth I spent much of her childhood. The Hertford Castle Gatehouse is all that remains of Hertford Castle, but this impressive building can be explored as part of the event including the Mayor’s Parlour, Robing Room and themed basement.
