Hidden 'art nouveau' at Ciao Amó
1-2 Lune Street, Preston, Lancashire, PR1 2NL
It’s back – one of the most popular buildings in the early Preston HODs programme! Formerly P.C. Carpets, it has been freshly refurbished as Ciao Amó Italian restaurant. Original features have been repaired and retained, and you still climb the impressive wooden panelled staircase to reach the highlights on the top floor.
Next to the manager’s office are his private facilities, decorated - in complete contrast to the dark panelling elsewhere - with fine ‘art nouveau’ tiles around the sink and a mosaic floor. The Historic England listing suggests it’s a late Victorian building, but the more likely date is 1908, when ‘art nouveau’ was still at its height.
Just drop in during the advertised times and discover this hidden gem and the history of the building.
