History and Nature in Boston's Victorian cemetery

See the headstones of Boston's former shopkeepers and the accompanying display of shops and stories in the crematorium chapel. Follow the tree trail - ask for the free booklet. Many of the trees date back to the opening of the cemetery. A display in the crematorium chapel will give you an idea of the profusion of birds, insects and plants that live within the Victorian part of the cemetery. Its twin chapel was demolished in 1961. Around it, in ground blessed according to their own traditions are the graves of Roman Catholics, Methodists, Baptists, Plymouth Brethren and other Non-Anglican groups. The remaining Anglican chapel, having been disused for t least twenty years, is in need of more serious restoration, after damage in 2021 when a tree feel on the side . Cemetery records will be available in the chapel, to help to locate graves in both the older and newer sections of the cemetery. The figure of 8 path is unsuitable for wheel chairs as the surface is uneven, grass maybe slippery if wet and there are tripping hazards. Suitable clothing may prevent catching ticks, often present in long grass. There is ample parking but the car park is approx 300 yards from the Victorian section. Blue Badge holders, please call at the crematorium chapel if this will prove difficult for access. Note that only Assistance Dogs are allowed in the cemetery. Refreshments are available. (Coffee and cake etc.).

Directions:

After you enter Robin Hoods Walk through the traffic lights at the cross roads, you will pass the fire station on your left and Haven High Academy on your right. Then go straight on down Marian Road to the cemetery entrance at the end of the road.

The figure of eight paths are unsuitable for wheelchair access. Also, depending on weather conditions, suitable footwear is recommended as is protection against Tick infection. The paths should be taken with care as there will be trip hazards
