Hopping and Farming in Capel Kent

St Thomas a Becket Church Capel is a Grade I listed church, owned by the CCT and looked after by The Friends of Capel Church, with medieval wall paintings.

Capel History Group is holding a free exhibition in St Thomas a Becket church to celebrate the rich heritage of hop farming in our parish from 12th-20th September. The exhibition will display over two hundred photos, maps and diagrams and explain where hops were grown and how they were picked and processed. The event also includes some of the implements used in the hop industry over the last century or so. A copy of the 1881 census will be available so you can discover who and where people lived in our parish then. The exhibition is open daily from 10am to 4pm. Please note that the farming tools and implements on display will only be available to view on the 12th and 13th.

On the 12th-13th September refreshments will be available and members of the history group will be on hand to answer any questions.
