The event will be held in the halls of St Andrews Church, Paddock Wood . Visitors can expect to find exciting displays of life in communities of the past and information about significant events and people. There will also be an opportunity for visitors to tour the church in the morning. A guide will be available if required.
The interesting and unique St Andrews Church will be open for part of the day, where visitors can see stained glass & WW1 memorial plaques saved from the original church, including the font, altar & lectern.. The church was built using the Kentish ragstone from the original building in Church Road that was destroyed by a bomb. Lt Gen Sir Frederick Morgan , famous for being the mastermind behind D Day of WW2, laid the foundation stone, which can be seen on the outside of the Church.
The town, at the heart of the Kent Weald is a hub to nearby villages where events will also be held. Paddock Wood is known as home to Charles Dickens granddaughter, Dorothy, as well as being the birthplace of Sir Frederick Morgan. He was born at Mascalls, Paddock Wood (now a private house). His parents and grandparents were heavily involved with the community at the time. The wives were both involved with starting the local Women's Institute & singing in the Choral Society.
