There has been a school on this site since 1547. From 1608 until 1922 it was an independent boys' Grammar School. From 1922 to 1974, it became part of the Huddersfield Education Authority. It is now a flourishing Comprehensive with over 1,000 students.

King James's School has a long proud history of providing education to the children of Almondbury and the surrounding district.

The school will be open for visitors to take a look round the old parts of the school dating from 1750 to the late 19th century but this year it is hoped to have all the new extensions open for viewing. Senior students and former members of staff will be available to answer questions and take visitors around the school.
