Winterton's public inns and beer houses numbered at least nine in days gone by. Now there is just one. The buildings often remain with no sign of their previous lives. Among the brewers/owners were bricklayers, butchers and joiners.

Winterton’s inns and beer houses often changed name over their life-time. Some had a short lifespan and disappeared quite quickly being difficult to trace. The innholders/brewers moved on and sometimes were bankrupted. Some buildings became shops, some became ordinary houses until just one remains open today. Winterton’s brewing history is probably reflected in the history of other small towns in the county.
