Life of the Theatre: Look Inside
Lancaster Footlights, Grand Theatre, St. Leonards Gate, Lancaster, Lancashire, LA1 1NL
As part of Heritage Open Days 2026 and this year's theme, Everyday Histories, Lancaster Grand Theatre invites visitors to explore the fascinating life of the theatre beyond the performances seen on stage.
Drop in between 10am and 2pm and discover how the theatre has evolved through generations of audiences, volunteers, performers, and staff. Visitors are free to wander through the public areas of the building, view historical displays, and learn more about the theatre's rich heritage.
Throughout the day, a series of short talks will take place in the auditorium on the hour (10am, 11am, 12pm and 1pm). These 20-minute sessions will offer an insight into the theatre's story, accompanied by visuals celebrating its history and ongoing role in the community.
On the half hour (10.30am, 11.30am, 12.30pm and 1.30pm), visitors can also enjoy a brief 10-minute talk in the Circle Coffee Bar exploring the theatre's colourful past, including some of the ghost stories and legends that have become part of local theatre folklore.
No booking is required. Visitors are welcome to arrive at any time during opening hours, stay for as long as they wish, and attend as many talks as they choose.
Refreshments will be available to purchase from the Stalls Coffee Bar throughout the event.
