The Lion Salt Works is a restored historic open-pan salt making site, in the village of Marston, close to Northwich. This £10.23 million project opened in June 2015 offering a fascinating journey through the life of the country’s last open-pan salt making site. Join us for FREE ENTRY to the Lion Salt Works to explore the lives of the people who worked here.
Highlights of the day include:
*Grand opening of the Lion Salt Works Trust’s new salt making demonstration area, followed by salt making demonstrations.
*Free entry to the museum with regular mini guided tours.
*Archive film of the Salt Works when it was still in production in the early 1980s. The film compilation is 55 minutes and includes:
Winnington Today, celebrating the 100th anniversary of Winnington Works in 1973 with an extensive “tour” of the site and it’s products at that time, including naming all the staff who appear on it.
The Argus Films mini documentary about the Lion Salt Works made around the early 1980s.
Ready And Salted, an ICI promotional film from 1988 about the production and distribution of road salt, including underground footage of Meadowbank Mine.
Various other film clips of the Lion Salt Works and Meadowbank Mine together with a brief look at the “Salt Towns” and the problems of subsidence.
