“Living Museum of Ukrainian Legends and Myths” is an immersive cultural experience combining theatre, storytelling, history and Ukrainian mythology through live character performance and audience interaction.
Visitors journey across a mythological map of Ukraine - from the Carpathian Mountains and Polissia forests to Zaporizhzhia, Kyiv and Sumy regions - discovering legendary figures rooted in folklore and oral tradition. Characters from Ukrainian myths and historical imagination come to life, including the Cossack-kharakternyk, the Carpathian molfar, mavka, rusalka, forest spirits, witches, kobzars and prophetic guardians of ancient Kyiv.
Characters challenges simplistic ideas of “magic” and instead reveal deeper themes connected to human psychology, wisdom, nature, survival, intuition and the relationship between people and the land. Audiences are encouraged to experience myths not as distant fantasy, but as reflections of everyday fears, hopes, beliefs and identity.
The project creates a living legend where visitors become part of the story itself. Combining performance, costume, sound, folklore and immersive scenography, it explores how myths helped communities understand the world around them and preserve their collective memory.
The project responds to the national theme “Everyday Histories” by celebrating oral traditions, folk storytelling and the everyday cultural beliefs that shaped Ukrainian life and identity across generations.
