Longhoughton Churchyard Heritage Day

Our volunteers will be around the church, talking about the people of Longhoughton and Boulmer, the history of the church, and our churchyard survey. We have so far recorded 249 gravestones around the church, and built up a database of old records to help our research. We are hoping to link a plan of the churchyard to the gravestones, to make a record of their location and how they appear before more inscriptions are lost.

Join us to talk about the stories behind the gravestones in the churchyard 10am - 4pm (weather dependent) looking at some interesting gravestones, from shipwrecked sailors to a Victorian bonesetter. An exhibition of more stories will be found inside the church and available for the following week (please see our other event listing).

Colouring sheets will be available for children, and refreshments such as tea, coffee and cakes are available at the Heritage Day. All donations will go towards preserving the church.

Directions:

Some parking spaces are available opposite the church. Bus services between Alnwick and Berwick via the X18 and 418 services stop 150 yards (2 mins walk) along North End.

Accessibility details

Some steps and uneven surfaces inside the church but the main areas are accessible, and some of the graves are accessible via paths. The path from the gate to the church has a slight incline. Some parking spaces are available on the other side of the road opposite the church. If you require additional assistance ahead of visiting please email [email protected]
