Lowry the Artist - Seascapes
English Heritage, The Barracks, Parade, Berwick-upon-Tweed, Northumberland, TD15 1DF
As part of local celebrations commemorating the 50th anniversary of L S. Lowry’s death in 1976, this guided history walk explores the artist’s seascape paintings and his enduring connection to Berwick. This walk makes multiple stops along The Lowry Trail to examine how Berwick, as a northern seaside town, inspired some of Lowry’s most expressive coastal artworks. Although more widely known for his industrial scenes, this walk uncovers Lowry’s lifelong fascination with the sea, boats, and waves, and how these subjects inspired and shaped his creative practice. The walk also reflects on how Berwick locals continue to preserve and celebrate Lowry’s creative legacy today.
