Maidstone Town Hall Tours

Town Hall, Middle Row, Maidstone, Kent, ME14 1TF

  • Multiple dates available
  • In person

Enjoy a tour incorporating the architectural features of this fine Georgian building, the richly decorated council chamber, the gaol and its graffiti.

Maidstone Town Hall is a fine Georgian building, dated 1763, that was originally used as the Magistrate's Courts. The frescoes in the council chamber all carry their own unique stories, as does the ceremonial collection of silverware, which has a long history. This is followed by a visit to the unusual Gaol on the 2nd floor. Graffiti created by those waiting for deportation is still visible and fascinating to look at. Please note, the 2nd floor Gaol is not accessible to the mobility impaired.
