Originally a 17th-century coaching inn known as The Mermaid and later The Angel, 125 King Street became a private house around 1700. Today, its historic features, arched entrance and cobbled driveway—locally known as “Marble Arch”

In the early 17th century, 125 King Street was a coaching inn known as The Mermaid. It was later renamed The Angel before being converted into a private residence around 1700.

Many historic features still survive today, including the impressive inglenook fireplace and salt cupboards from the original kitchen, offering a fascinating glimpse into daily life in Knutsford centuries ago and illustrating how the town has evolved over time.

Today, 125 King Street is perhaps best known for its distinctive arched entrance and cobbled driveway, earning it the local nickname “Marble Arch”.
