Milton Chantry Heritage Centre

Located in the beautiful surroundings of New Tavern Fort Gardens, Milton Chantry is one of the borough’s oldest surviving buildings. This remarkable medieval structure has witnessed centuries of change, serving as a chapel, family home, inn, military barracks and now welcoming visitors as a heritage centre.

Its foundations date back to 1189, when it was believed to serve as a leper hospital and then was re-founded in 1321 by Aymer de Valence, Earl of Pembroke. Today, visitors can learn about its remarkable story through a free audio guide, travelling back in time to discover the many layers that have shaped this unique location.
