Tues 16th Sept, 1-2.30pm. Speaker: Neil Hanson. Talk: Inn at the Top. His talk is a laugh-a-minute tour of the quirks, foibles, highs and lows of his time running Britain’s highest inn (located at Tan Hill in Swaledale) back in the 1970s/1980s, grappling with tight-fisted farmers, eccentric characters, bizarre local customs, naturist weekends, “lates and lock-ins”, police raids, rats in the attic, close encounters with magistrates and planners, and the shooting of a famous double-glazing commercial.
Wed 17th Sept, 7-8.30pm. Talk. Speaker: local historian, David Pinder. Talk: Mirfield and the West Riding Between the Normans and the Roundheads.
Frid 19th Sept, 10.30 – 12noon. Talk: Mirfield Drama Federation's Theatre Festival in May 1954. Speaker: Frank Wright. Held at the House of the Resurrection, Quarry Theatre, some amazing historical events will be recounted.
Sat 20th Sept, 10.30 - 12.00. Children's Craft Activity. Organisers: Julia Mitchell, Sheila Newsome, Jane Bridger. Lego competition with ‘architecture’ as the theme.
Sat 20th September, 10.30 -12.30. Local History Walk. Organiser: Jenny Gale.
A short circular walk, about 2hrs, around Mirfield taking in local historical features, from Mirfield library, led by the local wellbeing walks leaders supported by the Third Age Local History Gp members. It is not suitable for young children or dogs. Please note - walkers walk at their own risk, suitable footwear is advised. Book at the library in advance.
