Monton Unitarian Church's wonderful building, designed by Thomas Worthington and featuring stunning stained glass windows, and with a congregation with a history of radical dissent, celebrates its 150th Anniversary in September this year.

Monton Unitarian Church was designed by Thomas Worthington, opened in 1875. A beautiful building, the church is particularly noteworthy for its late 19th century stained glass windows which honour not just Jesus and other biblical figures, but also great men of both the classical and modern world. Artists, writers, scientists and philosophers are represented. A guide to the church windows and other historical details will be available, along with various artefacts from our historical archives, such as old record books and silverware. Of particular note are some handwritten and signed original letters and plans by Thomas Worthington himself, and the minute books from the 1870s recording all the decisions regarding the building and design of the church.

As part of the celebrations of our anniversary, a host of other events such as live music performances, a look at future plans for the church, community group stalls advertising their activities along with 'demonstration events, and fun for the kids. Rev Anna will give a talk on the history of the community and the building at 1400.

In addition our LGBTQ+ history will be celebrated with our national exhibition called Unitarian LGBT+ Voices - we were the first church in Salford to offer same sex weddings and are proud of our campaigning for LGBTQ+ rights..
