Discover the wide variety of animals cared for and encountered by the Hussars throughout history. A temporary display, including free entry to the museum for Heritage Open Days 2026.

HorsePower, The Museum of The King's Royal Hussars, provides free entry to the museum, and a new temporary display, on Saturday 19th September 2026. Explore over 300 years of cavalry history in only cavalry museum in the South of England.

The museum displays the history and collections of seven Hussar regiments, with history dating from 1715 to the present day. Discover the role the Hussars played at key battles, such as Waterloo and Balaclava, and learn about the development of the cavalry from horseback to tanks.

We have a selection of free children's trails to further engage you in the history, as well as a brand new temporary display for Summer 2026.

Please note there is very limited on-site parking. Permits can be collected from any of the museum front desks, but we cannot confirm there will be spaces available on the day.

Directions:
HorsePower Museum is a 10 minute walk from Winchester Rail Station. The closest parking is at Tower Street Multi-Storey SO23 8TA. Peninsula Barracks is not a working barracks sight, there is uninhibited visitor access to the site. The gates do not close either.

There is very limited on-site parking. We cannot guarantee that there will be spaces available on the day. If you are in a wheelchair, please ensure you enter the building via the front doors (opposite the fountain), as there is an accessible ramp.
