Norwich Cathedral: The never-ending story
The Dean & Chapter of Norwich Cathedral, Chapter Office, 65 The Close, Norwich, Norfolk, NR1 4DH
The original building may have been completed in 1145, but the structure we see and admire today is the result of nine centuries of change, which continues to this day.
Built in the 11th and 12th centuries, embellished in the 14th and 15th centuries. Repurposed in the 16th century. Wrecked and nearly demolished in the 17th century. Restored in the 19th century. Updated in the 20th century. Flourishing in the 21st century.
This is the ongoing story of Norwich’s Romanesque cathedral, and this tour will explain some of the who, the how and the when of its long history, from its earliest beginnings and onwards, to its intention to remain a beacon of faith in our fine city.
