Open Day at the Grenville Battery

Local historian John Manley will be showing guests around one of East Cornwall's most well preserved and scenic military environments. Built in the 18th Century, the Grenville Battery is open to the public only for the Heritage Open Days festival.

Maker Heights' Redoubt Number 4, known as the Grenville Battery, was built during the period of the American Revolutionary War to protect against the threat of a French and Spanish invasion.

Local historian, John Manley, will be opening the Redoubt to the public and inviting interested guests to visit and learn about the history of both the Grenville Battery, and the lives of those who built it.

Redoubt 4 can be accessed from Maker Heights, guests are invited to park in the car park next to the Nissen Huts and make the short walk to the Redoubt. This includes rural footpaths to it is required to be physically fit and wear sturdy shoes.

Accessibility details

Access to the Redoubt is via rural footpaths, there is no wheelchair access to visitors must be physically fit and come prepared with sturdy footwear.
