"On the Buses"

This special open day at Stoneygate Tram Depot will celebrate local people, from a wide range of ethnic groups, who have kept Leicester’s public transport services moving for over 150 years!

The Leicester Transport Heritage Trust has a large photo archive of transport staff and many are sadly not identified. We will have many photos on display on Sunday 14 September and we would welcome any help from visitors in identifying those featured. You may even spot yourself! The Tram Depot has permanent display boards chronicling the story of public transport in Leicester. There will also be a number of children friendly attractions.

If you or a family member works or worked in public transport we would be delighted to see any related photos or items which you or they may own. We can arrange to have these copied or photographed and add the details to the records in our archive .

There are no access restrictions to the Tram Depot and it has a large flat floor. However, please note that there is a cobbled yard in the front entrance area. We will also be a operating a free circular heritage bus service from outside the Tram Depot. This will operate every 30-minutes with a journey time of 20 minutes.

Accessibility details

There is no parking provision at the Tram Depot but there is plenty of free parking in adjacent side streets. The cobbled front yard at the Tram Depot might be difficult for some. There is just one basic toilet on site but there is an accessible toilet in the Shell petrol station next door. All age groups and abilities are very welcome.
