Oxford Castle Prison

When William the Conqueror invaded England and won the Battle of Hastings in 1066, Oxford Castle was marked by the Normans as the ideal place for a motte-and-bailey castle. Over time, our site transformed from a castle into a prison. Today, after one millennium, Oxford Castle Prison is one the most unique treasures of our city.

Guests will be able to visit the bottom of St George's Tower, the Crypt, D-wing and the 1st floor, with tour guides on hand to provide further information. Please note: St George's Tower will be closed during this event.

No need to book, but there may be a queue.
