Pippbrook House Tours
Pippbrook House, Reigate Road, Dorking, Surrey, RH4 1SH
Pippbrook House in Dorking is a Grade II* listed Victorian mansion, designed by Sir George Gilbert Scott. Built in 1856 and rich in architectural detail, the house has lived many lives - from private residence and museum to council headquarters and town library. Now, following recent restoration work, visitors have a unique opportunity to step inside and witness its revival.
Guests can explore Pippbrook House’s ground floor interiors, admire intricate wood carvings and decorative plasterwork, and learn about the building’s layered past.
Using newly researched material, a brand-new exhibition will reveal the colourful everyday histories of the inhabitants, both upstairs and downstairs. It will shed light on the industries and stories of the surrounding streets, which grew up to serve the local estates and their wealthy owners.
Pre-bookable tours of the house will also take visitors to the usually inaccessible upstairs bedrooms.
This event has been created in collaboration with leading family history website Findmypast, sponsors of ‘Everyday Histories’, the festival theme. Discover your ancestors' stories at findmypast.co.uk
