Railways of the North: Rockets, Lions and Planets
Chester Lane Community Centre, Chester Lane, Sutton Manor, St. Helens, Merseyside, WA9 4DE
Join us for a historical talk from Professor Paul Salveson that looks at the railways of the north and developments across the borough of St Helens as we steam towards the 200th anniversary of the Rainhill Trials in 2029 and the opening of the Liverpool and Manchester Railway in 2030.
Professor Salveson is chair of Rocket: All Aboard, planned to be a dynamic, multi-year programme (2029–2030) celebrating 200 years since the opening of the Liverpool to Manchester Railway — the world’s first inter-city passenger line.
This is a free event that has been organised for Heritage Open Days 2025. The event is made possible thanks to Lottery Players as part of the National Lottery Heritage Fund Creative Underground project, coordinated by St Helens Archive Service.
