A rare opportunity to view the interior of the medieval gatehouse, one of the last remnants of the old Benedictine abbey of Ramsey. The rich panelling, blank tracery and ornamental cornices reveal how wealthy the abbey was in its heyday.

Discover the inside of the old gatehouse, including the 13th century Purbeck marble effigy of a layman (believed by many to be the founder, Ailwyn). Talk to our enthusiastic volunteers about the history of the Abbey in Ramsey, its importance in the town and the Fens, and read the clues in the remains.
