Explore Ribble Steam Railway & Museum like never before during Preston Heritage Open Days — with special access to our museum, workshops, diesel shed, conservation centre and turntable.

As part of Preston Heritage Open Days, Ribble Steam Railway & Museum is opening its doors wider than ever before! In addition to our main museum, you can step inside our active workshops (RSR and Furness Railway Trust), visit the diesel shed, and tour our Conservation Centre. We’re also excited to showcase our turntable, currently under restoration. The site follows the route of former industrial lines that once served the bustling dock and local factories, playing a key role in Lancashire’s economy. The museum, home to one of the largest collections of industrial locomotives in the country, tells the story of the people, engines, and industries that shaped the area.
During Heritage Open Days, visitors can explore historic engines, and discover how volunteers maintain this Heritage Railway. Our restored steam train will also be running - paid tickets for train rides are available.
Train travel is not included in this event. Tickets for train rides are available via online booking on the RSR website or at the Front Desk.
