St John the Evangelist Parish Church on Park Street in Taunton will be open over the weekend for visiting and browsing our second hand books.

St John's is a Grade 1 listed building designed and built by Sir George Gilbert Scott commissioned by Rev'd Frederick Smith and completed in 1863. Mostly in the Victorian Gothic style there is an interesting Arts and Crafts screen installed some time after consecration and a golden altar frontal from the 1960s. The organ is particularly fine, being a well maintained Father Willis installed the year after the church was opened by subscription from the congregation. Visiting organists will be very welcome to see for themselves how gutsy it is!
