Sandham is home to an epic series of large-scale murals by the acclaimed artist Stanley Spencer created to honour the ‘forgotten dead' of the First World War.

For 2026 Heritage Open Day on the 19th September we are allowing free entry offering a great opportunity to explore Stanley Spencer's paintings in the Chapel, spend time in our gardens, listen to poetry and join us on a 3 mile Walk around the village of Burghclere in Stanley's footsteps. There will be art sessions for everyone, a pop up tea room, deep dive into the paintings and other activities to enjoy.
