Sheffield's Play-Full City
Bond Bryan Architects, 152 Rockingham Street, Sheffield, South Yorkshire, S1 4EB
We traverse our city centre for work, rest and play, but how does the journey itself contribute to our wellbeing? Two events will reflect upon the positive contribution that Pounds Park has made to the Heart of the City project. Through a walking tour and also hearing directly from the people involved in its design, we aim to discuss what makes this and other playful spaces successful.
The related events will take place on two evenings of the same week, providing a cumulative experience.
Tuesday 6pm - 8pm:
- Introduction
- Talks to outline the purpose and aims
- A 40 minute walk through the city centre, starting at Pounds Park, taking one of four routes and answering a series of questions to assess spaces along it. Some of the aspects to be looked at will include safety, comfort, inclusivity, attractiveness and playfulness.
- Regather for short review of each of the walks
Thursday 6pm - 8pm:
- Talks given by those involved in designing, and reviewing, the use of Pounds Park
- Providing examples of playful spaces in other cities
- Recap on outcomes from the Tuesday walks to inform a workshop that generates ideas for the future, supported by a sketch artist who will help us produce a report with recommendations for spaces to be enjoyed by all.
