Side-by-Side Spire Project Open Day and Concert
St John's Church, Kidderminster Road, Bromsgrove, Worcestershire, B61 7JW
Join us at St John’s Church Bromsgrove for a day of music, heritage craft skills and architecture.
Start the day with an uplifting Cake and Coffee Concert with Orchestra of St John at 10.30am on Saturday 20th September. Enjoy homemade cakes with a drink in the company of fellow attendees after the music. Following on after the concert visitors can explore the building and churchyard, learn about the Spire Project to restore Worcestershire's tallest church spire, and try their hand at the heritage craft skills used in the restoration project.
Inside the ancient church visitors can learn how the spire has remained as a landmark for the town for 500 years, with our Structural Engineer’s demonstration with a model of the church and a fan which shows some architectural secrets! Our Architect will talk through the technical drawings and plans to restore the spire, and there will be a chance to build a model of the church, to showcase the art and science behind designing and constructing buildings in ancient times.
Outside there's an opportunity to meet the stonemasons and heritage restoration team and learn about the materials and stone used in the Spire Project, plus have a go at carving a piece of stone and lime pointing.
The Friends team will be around to discuss the project. Refreshments available all afternoon. And church historian Simon Henderson will be Myth Busting with fact or fiction topics!
All are welcome to take a journey through history and restoration with us!
