Semaphore Tower is a unique remnant from the Napoleonic era, the Grade II* listed brick structure is the only surviving semaphore tower in Britain. It was once a cutting-edge building at the forefront of technology and design.

The Landmark Trust are opening Semaphore Tower for Heritage Open Days 2026. These free open days will be an opportunity to see inside a recent Landmark restoration project and learn more about its history and restoration.

Weather permitting the roof will be open to visitors with stunning views over the Surrey Hills and full view of the refurbished and operational semaphore arms.

Entry is free, pre-booking is preferred via Eventbrite. Information will be provided detailing the building's history and a children's activity sheet will be available.

The tower can be a little tricky to find - please follow instructions carefully on the Landmark Trust website.

Both car parks are around 15 minutes walk to the Semaphore Tower. There are clearly marked paths from both car parks up the hill to the tower. Look out for red and blue 'Chatley Heath' markers along the paths. Accessibility details

Semaphore Tower is located around 15 minutes walk from public car parks, over rough heathland that may not be suitable for those with limited mobility. The paths are clearly marked but are uneven and steep in places. Inside the building, the tower is six floors and there is no lift. If disabled parking is required it is essential visitors contact us in advance to be able to facilitate access.
