A chance to take a look inside Halling's Grade 1 listed church of St. John's.

A church long associated with the nearby Bishop's Palace at Halling riverside, it dates back to Norman times. Its Victorian restoration uncovered a medieval "Passion Cycle" wall painting over the chancel arch, one of the finest examples in Kent and which has recently undergone extensive restoration. There is also an unusual Flemish brass behind the pulpit, originally commissioned by famous 16th century antiquarian William Lambarde in memory of his wife. St. John's also possesses four colourful stained glass windows, installed by the firm of Charles Kemp.
St. John's is used throughout the week by local community groups but this open day gives an opportunity for people to appreciate the church interior in their own time, with church wardens and members of the local Halling Historical Society on hand to answer any questions.
