St Margaret's Church, 250 Burnage Lane, Burnage, Manchester, Greater Manchester, M19 1FL

  • Multiple dates available
  • | In person
  • | Pre-booking not required
  • | Exhibition

An exhibition of photos, artefacts, information and stories relating to the history of St Margaret's Church, Burnage from 1875 to the present day.

Visitors to our exhibition will learn how St Margaret’s Church has developed over 150 years and how the work of the Church in the past has developed into the active life of the Church today. Of particular interest is the architecture of the building itself, by Architects Paley and Austin, a Grade II listed building, well-proportioned with a beautiful single frame roof. Visitors will be able to look at photographs, artefacts and information boards, read stories from the past and learn about our past rectors and the people who grew up worshipping here. They will be able to discover our war memorials, look through baptism and marriage records and talk to current members of the church about their own links to St Margaret's. The exhibition will 'flow' progressively around the building, with something new in each area. There will be opportunity, in certain places, to handle objects such as old church magazines, flags, Bibles, and church garments. Families will be able to complete a quiz relating to items on display. People interested in the history of Burnage will find it illuminating as we will seek to set the history of the Church in the context of Burnage itself, from its beginnings as a small village on the edge of Manchester to a busy suburb. Two books covering the whole history of St Margaret's from 1875–2000 and 2000-2025 will be available, as will booklets of 'Rectors' Notes: from the Past to the Present for our Future'. Light refreshments will be provided.
