Throughout the day there will be opportunities to explore the church, climb the tower, experience the sound of our historic bells, and hear our magnificent Victorian organ. Refreshments will be available 11am-1pm.
8am – Morning Prayer
Begin Heritage Open Day with a quiet service of Morning Prayer in the beautiful Lady Chapel. Everyone is warmly welcome.
10am – 1pm – Have ago at Bell Ringing
The Halesworth Bell Ringers invite you to discover the ancient art of English change ringing. Enjoy ringing demonstrations throughout the morning and, if you're feeling adventurous have a go yourself under the guidance of our experienced ringers.
1pm – 3pm – Tower Tours – Celebrating 200 Years of the Town Clock
To mark the 200th anniversary of Halesworth's Town Clock, take the opportunity to climb the church tower and see the remarkable 1826 clock mechanism up close. Learn about its history, how it works, and the volunteers who continue to care for this important part of the town's heritage.
3.00pm – 3.30/45pm – Organ Demonstration
Music has been at the heart of worship at St Mary's for centuries, and our magnificent Hill, Norman & Beard organ, built in 1889, remains one of the church's greatest treasures. Join Jason Busby, Organist of St Mary's, for an informal demonstration of this remarkable instrument, together with a short recital featuring some of his favourite pieces.
6.00pm – Evening Prayer with the peaceful service of Evening Prayer in the Lady Chapel.
