St Michael’s Church, Bailiffgate, Alnwick, Northumberland, NE66 1NB
Rebuilt in the mid-15th century in the Perpendicular style, points of interest include a rare 14th century Flemish chest, medieval grave slabs, the carved stone capital commemorating Harry Hotspur and a remarkable collection of stained-glass windows. There is a 21st century font carved in Kilkenny blue limestone.
A new feature is the display of lead graffiti brought into the church following the refurbishment of the tower. Dating from 1764 onwards the graffiti depicts aspects of local history and some designs of tracery not previously thought to have been found on a roof.
Installation boards will provide information regarding:- Details of some of the local characters who left their graffiti on the roof.
Details of some of the images which illustrate fashions, designs and ships of the mid 18th to early 19th centuries.
Visitors can explore where and how others have left their mark around the church and its grounds and record their own visit using simple tools to make a small, synthetic, magnetic replica tile which can be added to an A frame ‘roof’.
Guided tours of the tower will demonstrate the basics of bell ringing.

- Booking only required for tours of the tower. No booking is required for a visit to the Church. For the tower visits, Need to be able bodied - 35 narrow stairs. If under 16 must be accompanied by an adult. Guide will assemble group inside church at north west corner before beginning tour.

Accessibility details
Some uneven floors and steps. Limited disabled parking possible on-site. On-street parking close by. Off-street parking in Howling Lane. Tower Tours are not suitable for disabled visitors or unaccompanied children. No limit on numbers in the church, but for Tower tours there is a maximum of 10.
