St Nicholas Church Open Day
St Nicholas' Church, Church Lane, Godstone, Surrey, RH9 8BW
The church of St Nicholas in Godstone was largely rebuilt by George Gilbert Scott in 1870, and is a grade I listed building. Between 2pm and 4pm the church will be open to visit. There will be refreshments available and people around to answer questions about the history and architecture. Inside the church can see a range of memorials including that of John Evelyn who brought prosperity to Godstone through the manufacture of gunpowder in the seventeenth century. By the door you can visit our famous pirate's grave. Separately you can also visit St Mary's Chapel in the neighbouring almshouses, which is also by George Gilbert-Scott, and the Friends of St Nicholas will also be running a churchyard tour starting at 2.30pm for a small charge.
