St. Paul's Church, Scotforth
St. Pauls Church, 24 Scotforth Road, Lancaster, Lancashire, LA1 4ST
St Paul’s Scotforth, is known as one of the ‘Pots’ Churches of Sharpe and is one of three experimental terracotta designs. This Church is very unusual for the Lancaster area which is dominated by stone and neogothic buildings. The style of the Church is Romanesque which was unfashionable at the time but set out in an arrangement with no central aisle. It cost £3,500 when it opened in 1876. It was designed by architect Edmund Sharpe JP (1809-1877) as his last church. He lived nearby in Brunton House, and Sharpes Avenue and Sharpes Hill are named after him. Sharpe was Mayor of Lancaster in 1848-49 and is buried at Lancaster Cemetary. The exhibition contains videos and pictures from our archive, exhibits, a Children's Trail and even an old wedding dress. All of them will come together to create a picture from our pastand have us looking towards what the next 150 years could bring. You Tube 150 video.
