St Peter's Church
St Peter's Church, Church Lane, Thornton, Coalville, Leicestershire, LE67 1AA
This old and beautiful church, of medieval origin dates from the 13th century and is Grade I listed. It holds a unique place in the county, and its contents are of great historical interest. Medieval stained glass, linen fold pews from 1560, a working clock over 400 years old, a mid Victorian organ recently completely refurbished, are just a few of its assets. These features survive today because, fortunately, no restoration was carried out during the Victorian era. At Christmas 2019, St. Peter's increased its peal of bells to six.
The church has the back drop of Thornton Reservoir a local beauty spot, and easy walking - a circular walk of approximately 3 miles.
The exhibition will include the history of the church and church events, local history, and maps dated 1794 and 1919. There will be an opportunity to chat with a local amateur historian.
On Saturday 13th there will be a selection of homemade cakes for sale.
