St Peter's Highfields Everyday History and Art Exhibition

The stunning church of St Peter's was built before most of the houses in Highfields, and tells the story of Highfields from its glory days to a working class area and more recently to an area of proud diversity. Designed by G E Street, and built in memory of local philanthropist, Earl Howe, St Peter's proclaims the greatness of God. The church will be open throughout the day.

Enter through the West door, where there is still shrapnel damage from the bombs on November 1940, today you can see some of the stunning stained glass windows from the Arts and Crafts movement, including our newly restored Baptistery Window and the recently lit painted Chancel ceiling.

St Peter's has a history of welcoming the whole community and so we will be using the open day to showcase histories of our congregation through objects and stories and video's. Many of our congregation have stories to tell of lands far away or of working lives very different from today.

Hamilton Art Group have an exhibition of works they have created especially for the day based on Everyday Histories.
