Consecrated in 1768 St Peter's Church in St Peter's Square, is a traditional church & tranquil retreat from the busy town centre. Display of the church's history, guided tour & research into 3 local men who died in the Second World War.

We are open Saturday 12th 1300-1600 after our monthly free organ concert. Take a look inside this traditional and atmospheric church, which as an Anglo-Catholic Church of England Place of Worship is home to statues, vestments and processional banners similar to Roman Catholic churches. The original 1769 Whitehurst clock from the clock tower is also located on the ground floor and in full working order.

At 1400 a guided tour of the church will take place, just come and join in, no booking necessary.

A history display charts St Peter's journey from the 18th Century to the 21st, and includes pictures from inside the tower which is inaccessible to the public.
In keeping with the theme of everyday histories, learn about the three men on our war memorial who died in the Second World War. Read their poignant stories and of families left behind. From a brave young mum who escaped her abusive husband and set up a shop to provide for her children, to a tragic accident with a horse & cart, the 3 men who left Stockport and St Peter's to fight for their country had also found happiness in marriage and new families. A booklet of their stories is available.

Saturday is the date of our free Organ Concert too so pop along earlier if you like (1000-1300), and listen to guest organists/pianists play our church and theatre organs, or piano.

Hot and cold drinks available, and if you're lucky there may still be cake left from the concert!
