St Peter, Shorwell, Isle of Wight

St Peter’s, Shorwell, is a medieval Church of England parish church on Main Road in the village of Shorwell, Isle of Wight. The church has 12th-century origins, with surviving early fabric including the north chapel and later medieval additions from the 13th to 15th centuries. It is especially noted for its fine 15th-century wall painting of St Christopher, its early stone pulpit, historic roof timbers, brasses and monuments connected with the Leigh family of North Court. The church is Grade I listed for its exceptional architectural and historic interest and remains an active parish church serving Shorwell and Kingston.

Directions:

The church is on Main Road in Shorwell. Visitor information notes level access from the road through the church gate, an upward-sloping tarmacked path through the churchyard and level access through the front door. The church floor is stone slabs, with two steps up to the sanctuary area. There is no onsite parking with on-road parking nearby.
