St Thomas' Church, Thurstonland
St Thomas' Church, Marsh Hall Lane, Thurstonland, Huddersfield, West Yorkshire, HD4 6XD
The church was build in 1870 and is Grade II listed, has the original pipe organ, which is in full working order, a newly restored stained glass window an arch braced hammer beam roof and the original polished stone pulpit amongst its many treasures.
There will be some baptism registers and marriage registers on view together with information about the churchyard and the relationship between the church and the(now closed) Storthes Hall Hospital, the local school and cricket club. The history of the church and village is closely linked as villagers helped raise money to pay for the church building and physically helped to build it!
There will be information about the history of the local farms and brickworks, details of the network of footpaths and walks in the area and the project undertaken by the parish to restore the William Wailes stained glass east window which was completed in 2025.
There is a children's guide to the church available and villagers who have lived in the village for many years will be on hand to give personal recollections of how life has changed (or not!) over the years
