Influences on Architecture at St. Werburgh’s Church
Grosvenor Park Road, Chester, Cheshire, CH1 1QJ
Completed in 1875, a fine example of Thirteenth Century Early English style, by Edmund Kirby. Refurbished in 2002. Stained glass windows. Much acclaimed 3 manual Binns/Sixsmith organ installed 2004.
View displays inside the church, illustrating how the church evolved from its beginnings in secret masses said in houses on Foregate. It shows the changes in architecture, as politics, history, needs of the parish, and varying theological attitudes jostled for priority and dictated how today’s building took shape.
There will be stewards on hand to answer questions.
Church will be open 1pm - 3pm from Sunday 14 to Sunday 21 September.
On Sunday 14 September there will be a free drop in talk about the influence of Theology, Politics and History on St. Werburgh’s Church from 2pm –3pm.
