Step behind the curtain with our expert guides and discover parts of the theatre rarely seen by the public. Along the way, enjoy dramatic encounters that bring to life stories of staff who shaped the theatre over the years. You’ll also see our one-of-a-kind stage machinery in action, with live demonstrations from our volunteer team. The tour takes around an hour, and the 1867 Café will be open for drinks, refreshments, and lunch.

Accessibility details
Visitors with restricted mobility will have limited access. The tour includes lots of steps and comfortable shoes are recommended. Tours start and end at 1867 Café Bar (just a couple of doors up from the main theatre entrance on Westgate Road, next to The Bodega pub). The theatre has no parking but there are a number of public car parks nearby and we are 5 minutes from Newcastle Central Station/Metro. There are a very few on-street parking spaces outside the theatre.
