St. Bartholomew's Church, Armley
St. Bartholomew's Church, Wesley Road, Armley, Leeds, West Yorkshire, LS12 1SR
This magnificent building was begun in 1872 and completed in 1877, the tower being added in 1909, a 21st birthday present for a member of the Eyres’ family. The interior of the church houses a fine font, a remarkable pulpit, an impressive lectern, a wonderfully imposing reredos, and, to cap it all, a unique Schulze organ, installed in a new, vaulted gallery in 1879. People visit this organ from all over the world - but it's on your doorstep! A History and Guide by Michael Collins, 1990, is available at the church. This year we are running a Choral Festival in parallel with Heritage Open Days. The pop-up choral project 'With Heart and Voice' (WHAVe!) has been gaining momentum over the summer, giving anyone including those with little or no experience the opportunity to sing something they know, and to learn something they don't, with professional coaches and facilitators on hand to help! Also featured is Creative Frame - made of Leeds-wide groups showcasing men's creativity. The climax to the Project takes place during Heritage Open Days, so look out for details and times which will be posted nearer the Festival. If you want to get involved sign up for events at https://www.ticketsource.com/reallyfriendly All events are FREE!
