During the Cambridge Festival 2026, we invited communities to contribute to our Cambridge Festival Community Quilt and we are delighted that it will be on display during Open Cambridge 2026 at the Centre for Computing History in Cambridge.

During the Cambridge Festival 2026, we invited communities to contribute to our Cambridge Festival Community Quilt and we are delighted that it will be on display during Open Cambridge 2026 at the Centre for Computing History in Cambridge.

Made using a Japanese stitching technique, hitomezashi, each square of the quilt is designed using binary code. If you come to visit, you will have the opportunity to create your own square and take it home with you.

We are delighted the for this weekend only (12/13 September), the Centre for Computing History will be free for anyone to visit*. The museum is home to significant collection of vintage computers, ephemera, artefacts, documents and hands-on displays – in total over 40,000 items. The museum aims aims to preserve this fundamental part of our heritage and ensure it is valued, celebrated and secured for posterity.

*Pre-booking is recommended to guarantee entry. Tickets can be booked via the Centre for Computing History website using the code Quilt100 from Monday 10 August.
