St Oswald's Church, Winwick

On 19th August 1648, the English civil war raged at the battle of red bank otherwise known as The Battle of Winwick. St Oswald's Church at Winwick near Warrington sits within the battlefield site and became embroiled in the battle and was used as a refuge and a temporary detention centre for the captured royalist foot soldiers. For the heritage open weekend St Oswald's church will be hosting members of the Battle of Winwick Society who will be dressed in period attire displaying their uniforms, weapons, and other items replicated from the battle of 1648. There will also be on display a number of historical artefacts some relating to the battle. St Oswald's is and ancient 14th century church with memorials, paintings and even the marriage certificate of Captain Smith the Captain of the Titanic. All are welcome.

Accessibility details
There are no toilet facilities in the church, but facilities are available in the church hall adjacent to the church. A ramp is available to give wheelchair users access to the main body of the church. Other areas of the church are restricted due to a number of steps. There is a small car park adjacent to the church hall which is accessed via the lane called church walk.
