Sunny Bank Mills - Built In Cloth
Sunny Bank Mills, 83-85 Town Street, Farsley, Leeds, West Yorkshire, LS28 5UJ
Dating from 1829, Sunny Bank Mills was an important woollen and worsted mill, with a stimulating history. It is still owned by the Gaunt family who helped found the Mills in late Georgian times. The unique collection at Sunny Bank Mills' Museum & Archive based at Red Lane Mill will be open, containing a complete record of cloth samples woven at the Mills since the 1880s. The atmospheric Mills still contain many objects and artefacts from the days it employed over 900 people spinning and weaving some of the finest cloth in the world. Find out about the Mills' buildings and spaces and explore the process through soundscape, a 3D printed model of the site and a unique opportunity to watch footage of the working Mills in the film The Last Press. Elsewhere on site, the Art Gallery will also be open with a new photography exhibition, Many Hands, alongside artists' Open Studios in the Twisting, Red Lane and Spinning Mill. In addition, studio holder Mel Davies in collaboration with artist Kim Coley has a free exhibition, Drawn Together, in the Spinning Mill Loft (accessible by stairs only). Enjoy refreshments in the Gallery Tea Room and beautiful hand-crafted gifts in the Gallery shop. Outside, explore our heritage buildings, visit our giant sheep (there are 2!) and complete our Family Mill Trail.
